Het Filiaal

Our arts education

We stimulate children to color outside the lines and to look at the world through many different lenses.

A lesson that is so wonderful that students spontaneously talk about it at home? This is exactly what we achieve. In our Filiaal labs, students experiment with imagination just like our theatre makers.

What we do

For each show that we create, we develop lesson materials for primary schools with great care and attention. This is not only to prepare students for their theatrical experience. Using high quality theatre and arts education, we stimulate children to color outside the lines and to look at the world through many different lenses. By doing so we contribute to the development of creative power and 21st century skills.

What we offer

  • Is pedagogical, didactic and process-centred.
  • Connects with the interests and inner world of children.
  • Connects with the regular curriculum noting SLO core targets.
  • Contributes to a richer learning and living environment.

Lesson materials

With each school performance, there are online lesson materials that connect to themes and form aspects of the performance. There are videos, suggestions for lessons and more in order to deepen the visit to the theatre. Curious about our lesson materials? Have a look at the video below.

Wonder Creatures Het Filiaal theatermakers

The creative lessons by Het Filiaal are truly different. The children completely lost themselves in them!

“My animal likes little things and tiny bubbles and he loves himself. What can your animal do?” -student, de Tweeklank School

“A student that usually has a difficult time at school, to everyone’s surprise excelled amazingly in the lesson. So great!” -Visual Arts teacher-Creative line The Little Lamb that is a Pig.

About the project

In the exhibition, Wonder Creatures, we meet a colourful collection of animals in all sizes and shapes. Inspired by the joyful and inclusive performance, The Little Lamb that is a Pig and other farm stories, the children gave their imaginations free-reign on themes of identity, diversity and solidarity. The students worked in five lessons starting from a flat surface to a bonified three-dimensional work of art. They thought up in what kind of habitat their animal would live, how it would protect itself against threats and what kind of friendships could originate.
