DEEP, winner of the Silver Cricket (national award) for the most impressive youth theatre production '25-'26, has been selected for the Netherlands Theatre Festival and can be seen on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 7:30 PM at the Bijlmer Parktheater in Amsterdam.

About the performance
DEEP is music theatre with fantastic glowing sea creatures, absurd scenes, and sharp dialogue. The compositions by Gábor Tarján are played and sung live by percussionist and vocalist Dirge Seçil Kuran. For everyone from 9 to 109 years old.

We descend to the deepest part of the ocean. Which animals live here? Whose is the sea? Do you actually exist if you haven't been discovered? In the darkness of the deep sea, the most wondrous and often still undiscovered animals and organisms pass by. What would their deep conversations be about?

The text was written by Eva Gouda, who previously wrote the play script for POPpulisme, which was awarded a Golden Cricket. She is known for her sharp, humorous way of making complex themes accessible to a young audience. Side program DEEP

DEEP, National award winning in beeld

In the beautiful DEEP, the fish, mollusks, and mammals of the deep sea suddenly have to deal with human thoughts. The fantastic performers and the stunning puppet and costume design by Eva Arends fully immerse you in the almost otherworldly beauty of the deep-sea world.
National Award Jury Report
The beautiful puppets and costumes by Eva Arends and the phenomenal puppetry of the cast (Barend van Daal, Rabbi Jallo, and Sophie Bakker) immediately bring the deep sea to wondrous, enchanting life.
Theaterkrant
With stunning images of the deep sea, plenty of humor, and the question ‘whose sea is it really?’ DEEP not only makes you fall in love with the deep sea but also makes you think about how we humans use and “see” it. For a moment, I felt like I was back in the deep sea — where I once dived in a submarine myself.
Sabine Gollner, diepzeebioloog bij het NIOZ
Lisanne from B&A came to make a report with her 2 children: 'We enjoyed ourselves. Even the 13-year-old (who thinks everything is stupid at the moment) watched with fascination. And you probably heard Xavier’s laugh; he thought it was very funny!'
Bier & Appelsap
Gouda en Corvers maken de thema’s behapbaar voor een jong publiek zonder ze van hun complexiteit te beroven...
Theaterkrant
In a masterful scene featuring an octopus that becomes a puppeteer itself with its eight arms, Gouda and Corvers dive into a metal layer as the puppets played by the octopus suddenly see the humans operating the octopus.
Theaterkrant
The alienating compositions, which Dirge Seçil Kuran wrote together with Gábor Tarján, manage to capture the otherworldly atmosphere of the ocean floor well.
