The beautiful puppets and costumes by Eva Arends and the phenomenal puppetry of the cast (Barend van Daal, Rabbi Jallo, and Sophie Bakker) immediately bring the deep sea to wondrous, enchanting life.

With stunning images of the deep sea, plenty of humor, and the question ‘whose sea is it really?’ DEEP not only makes you fall in love with the deep sea but also makes you think about how we humans use and “see” it. For a moment, I felt like I was back in the deep sea — where I once dived in a submarine myself.

In a masterful scene featuring an octopus that becomes a puppeteer itself with its eight arms, Gouda and Corvers dive into a metal layer as the puppets played by the octopus suddenly see the humans operating the octopus.

The alienating compositions, which Dirge Seçil Kuran wrote together with Gábor Tarján, manage to capture the otherworldly atmosphere of the ocean floor well.
