‘Brokkejok is an intimate theatrical adventure that, between the beginning and the end, or between the end and the beginning, or between two ends and two beginnings consistently surprises.’Theaterkrant

Lies cause damage. So they say. Fantasising is a bit like lying. You make up something that isn’t true. Fantasising is of course always okay. But then, when are you actually a ‘fibber’?
- BROKKEJOK -
An absurd co-production between coupdeboule and Het Filiaal theatermakers.
Lies cause damage. So they say. Fantasising is a bit like lying. You make up something that isn’t true, isn’t real, doesn’t exist. Fantasising is of course always okay. But then, when are you actually a ‘fibber’? Voilá: coupdeboule’s starting point.
Audience facilitator Thea ter Doek prefers everything to be perfectly clear and organised. But being a control freak and theater aren’t very compatible. In her attempt to make everything run as smoothly as possible, Thea triggers a wondrous world around a large red curtain. A world in which police officers cough up blue balls, people suddenly change in appearance, tea bags take on gigantic proportions and abstract forms are suddenly endowed with meaning. Let go of all control is what this show is suggesting: it isn’t that useful anyway.
In a simple and inventive set, more and more forms and colours unfold. Together with the set, the music becomes crazier, wilder until a different world emerges. A world full of chunks of imagination in all shapes and sizes. The music was composed (in co-operation with the Royal Conservatory in The Hague) by Delara Navaey.
Coupdeboule is made up of theater creators Eileen Graham and Katelijne Beukema. With imagination as their point of departure, coupdeboule searches for answers to difficult problems like what is real and what isn’t. They create playful, philosophical productions that aim to stimulate the audience’s imagination no matter their age. Their work is colourful and physical.
